secured credit card

With several credit card companies to choose from, and many types of credit cards to pick, selecting the best credit card is difficult.  If you've narrowed the choice down to a secured card, here's some info to help you get started.

First, understand that a secured credit card might come with an annual fee.  Some credit card companies add this fee, which is generally $25-$75, as a fee for utilizing the card.  When possible, seek to locate a company that offers this type of card without the annual fee.

Next, take a peek at the credit card company grace period.  Companies sometimes give unequal grace periods based on the type of card, so scan the small print.  Many credit cards have a one pay cycle grace period if you pay off the amount due each month.  Otherwise, interest starts compounding the instant you do a purchase.

You might want to determine your credit score before applying for a secured credit card.  If your score is bad, you might not get the secured card.  The credit card company might give you a unequal type of credit card.

Finally, realize that your credit limit on a new secured card might not be as high as additional cards you already have.  Credit card issuers commonly want to know how well you pay before increasing your credit maximum.
